Circa 1885 Victorian Aesthetic Movement Hand Engraved Sterling Silver Locket with Crane

$ 495.00

This exquisitely crafted Aesthetic period locket, dating from around 1885, features the crane, prince of the birds, standing among water reeds and framed by a foliate motif. Cranes were popular in jewelry and art during the Aesthetic Movement, highlighting the growing popularity in Asian design elements between the late 1860s to 1900. It was once believed that cranes lived for 1000 years and as such they represented longevity as well as good fortune. This elegant engraved bird makes a perfectly fitting guardian for photos of your loved ones.
