1950s Ballesteros Mexico Sterling Silver Amethyst Warrior Brooch

$ 525.00

While the Aztec Warrior is a very traditional motif of Mexican silver, the amethyst face on this delightful brooch makes this piece quite unusual. This brooch was created by the famous Talleres de Los Ballesteros. They began their illustrious metalsmithing tradition in Iquala in 1937 and shortly thereafter moved to Taxco, Mexico. This exquisite figural brooch was handwrought circa the late 1950s and features an exceptional bezel set carved amethyst face. The amethyst is a rich, deep, translucent purple bearing no inclusions to the naked eye. Its color can range from a warm, bright purple to a cooler, muted shade depending upon the light. The warrior wears an elaborate sterling silver headdress and his earrings are articulated-- sure to wiggle and shake as you move!
