Sunday Brunch: Art Nouveau

January 10, 2021

Dear friends,

This week we are going to be taking a dive into the Art Nouveau period in jewelry design! First gaining popularity in the late 1800s, Art Nouveau style is recognizable by its organic inspiration and feeling of movement. You will see a lot of sinuous curves and gracious use of negative space in Art Nouveau designs, heavily influenced by both the anti-industrialism of the Arts and Crafts movement that came before it and the wave of Japonism that followed Japan's reopening to international trade in 1858. In jewelry, this period saw a move away from diamonds and towards semi-precious stones, enamel, and organic materials like horn, tortoise and ivory.

For our brunch menu today we recommend tea, petit fours, and thoughts of spring and things to come!
